Why do I need Outgoing SMTP Relay?

SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) is used for the transmission of e-mail on the Internet. A majority of ISP's like VSNL, mantraonline etc. are discontinuing the practice of providing unrestricted outgoing SMTP -- largely due to nearly impossible access control, and thus its high vulnerability to spam, abuse and denial of service attacks.

Previously these ISP's were providing the facilty where anyone could send emails using his email id like 'yourname@yourdomain.com' but lately this has been stopped by many and one can send email using the email id offered by the ISP only like 'myname@ISPname.com but not with his own website identity 'yourname@yourdomain.com'.
